Re: Sad news!!!

Shocked and saddened by the news, Tweety. I only met Pam once, at a Cruise Mates get together at the Marriott in Fort Lauderdale, but we corresponded and talked on the telephone frequently. She was a...

Off to the CostaFortuna

We're off on Monday for a pre-innaugural cruise on the CostaFortuna and then for the innaugural festivities on Saturday. Back on Sunday and, hopefully, a few words on the ship.

Re: costa med. GS Cabin Question

The mid-ship GS's are basically one very large room with the bath and walk in closet as sort of an anti-room. We've had both. The aft GS's have remarkable, spacious, wrap around balconies that are...

Re: Costa Atlantica

Michelle...

General rule: Take half the clothes and twice the money!

CostaAtlantica is a great ship. Have a ball and let us know how you liked it!

Re: embarkation

Embarkation procedures are an unending source of frustration for the lines. They are fully aware of the understandable tenet that a delayed and troublesome embarkation triggers a negative mood in the...

Re: Arrival in New York

Well... getting off the QE2 and taking a Greyhound Bus to Washington, or anywhere, takes a certain "panache" I would say.

The previous poster is quite right... Amtrak from Penn Station to DC is...

Re: Cruise ship v. Ocean Liner

I don't think you'd be too happy on the Disney Magic in Winter on the North Atlantic, for which the liners were designed. I'd suggest "The Only Way To Cross", by John Maxtone-Graham as a good...

Re: Transatlantic fall weather

Well... I've done it in mid/late September and October... a few times... it can be "bracing" on deck, but its wonderful. No one can predict, with any degree of accuracy, the weather on the North...

Re: AARP DISCOUNTS ON CRUISES

If the fare you're paying is eligible for an AARP or similar discount, you're probably paying too much to begin with.

Your t/a should be able to quote group, regional or other specially...

Re: Tonnage of ships

Actually, the official definition is:

One Gross Registered Ton is 100 cubic feet of enclosed space available to revenue passengers. It is an archaic measurement which changes often on a given...

Off again on my favorite ship

Well... sailing tomorrow from New York to Southampton on the QE2... the "only way to cross"! I'll try to post another review when I return. Sadly, this will be my last (as far as I can see)...

Re: Bus from Anchorage to Seward

It is a lovely ride... along the river for a good part of the way... 2 to 3 hours... depending on conditions. I find it to be an enjoyable part of the Alaska experience rather than a negative.

Re: Re: ONE DAY IN BERMUDA

Longboy... as I said, "many will disagree". It's just my opinion... which is what these boards are all about, I would guess.

Re: Re: Re: Re: New build's name

Jon... so I did in another thread! No one knows if it is apocryphal or not... but it is a nice story! We could do with a QV1!

Re: Re: Re: QM-Bait and Switch tactics ?

Well... problem #1 was calling Cunard directly to book. First, you paid more than you should (as you would booking directly with ANY cruise line)... and, second, as you know, booking QE2 or QM2 is a...

Re: Stunning announcement by Mickey Arison!

There is an old and, perhaps apocryphal, story about the naming of the original Queen Mary. It is cited in "The Only Way To Cross"... perhaps the best book ever written on the subject of express...

Re: Re: Re: ONE DAY IN BERMUDA

Forgive me, but if I had just one day there I'd be thankful.

I find Bermuda a crushing bore... little to do, ships' casinos closed and so on. If one is not a golfer or beach person (and then the...
