Same thing. Works like a hotel key card. The magnetic strip is also tied to your account (credit card or cash, whichever you use), so this is what you use to buy anything on the ship.

Both. I originally started to sleep with a fan on because any little noise would wake me up (and still does), so I used a fan to cover up noises. Now I can't sleep without the noise the fan makes.
