friends of mine brought back a book they picked up on their cruise to alaska that had wonderful pictures of ammolite jewlery. it is said to be even more rare than tanzanite. does anyone have any knowledge of this stone or own it. i would love to pick up a piece while i am there if it is really worth the time to shop and get the best buy on it.
Ketchican, cruise port is the St. Thomas for Alaska. We found good prices on jewelry there and think you might be able to get Ammolite there. We did see it in other ports, but it was quite pricey so we opted for the white with gold quartz. Good Luck and enjoy Alaska.
Actually, ammolite is a shell. It looks somewhat like an opal. If you like it that is fine, but don't just accept the price stated, haggle a little bit. Most jewelry is marked up 3 to 5 times what the shop onwer paid for it.
