Default St.Thomas Port

Hi,

I spoke to a friend about shopping in St. Thomas and she told me you can shop right near the port. I was wondering if there was another area besides there for good buys on gold jewelry. thank you for your help. Dee

Hi Dee,
You can shop at the port at Havensight Mall, or go downtown and shop at the same stores. We did go downtown once when we had more time, but if you are short on time, the same stores are by the pier. You can easily catch a cab to take you downtown, there are plenty waiting at the pier.

Dee: I have a friend in St. Thomas who owns Little America, a mom and pop jewelry store with the best prices on the island. It's at 21 Main Street, as you're looking at the harbor from the ship, it's to the far left of town, past all the "fancy" shops.

I've sent countless people there over the years and all have been very happy with Parminder Singh and his lovely wife, Pinky. I found the store by accident many years ago after a hot, frustrating, high pressure day of shopping for a gold ring. I wandered in and Parminder said, "you look exhausted - would you like some water or soda?"

I found the ring, cheaper than the other stores and have since bought many items from them. Tell them Carol from Michigan sent you and you'll get an even better price! I will be there in October and will tell them to expect you!

There is a Little America at the Havensight mall but the one I mean is downtown.

I personally like to shop in downtown Charlotte-Amalie over Havensight Mall, both locations have basically the same shops, but you get more of the local island flavor when you shop downtown. The stores at Havensight are all the chain stores.

I printed your post out Dee--looks like the little shop will become busy--We are sailing next July 10th Destiny and will save our energy and go there directly.

Another little family owed shop that we have gotten great buys at in downtown St. Thomas is a place called "Valentines" We've been there several times and have always gotten very good deals on Amethysist and Topaz..

How far is the taxi ride from the port to downtown? Is 3 hours enough to go there, shop and get back?? Thanks!

Carol from Michigan, I wrote down your referral of Little America- can you walk to it from the port? We will be there the beginning of Oct. and would love to see it!

you need to take a cab from the pier to get to downtown Charlotte-Amalie, maybe a 15 minute ride.

Lisa is right - Little America is on the "far end" of the main shopping street - past all the fancy shops. It's a little mom and pop place with extremely good people and good prices.
