Are you talking about Molas? Theyre swatches of fabric (mainly black) with cut outs in bright colors that create a picture? If this is it, I got a few pieces in San Blas Islands (Panama). I dont recall a purse, but then again I wasnt looking for one.
Don't know if it is spelt correctly, but will be looking for either pieces or purses with "moeles". But where? Belize???
MOLAS are made by Kuna Indians in the PCanal Zone...I have many, stretched and framed..they are the top of the womans dress..so the "worn-er", the better. I also have some patch size, and some 6x6..they do make Tourist-y ones as well..look for hand sewn reverse applique, rather than machine.most subjests are folkloric, but my own fave is a reverse swastika..astuall Singrr sewing machines 1st logo. in the 80's they were around $20 ea for large, but multiples mades them less..check molas on line to get an idea of gallery prices. They may be avail now other islands. hope this helps..judi
Unless your going directly to the San Blas Islands expect to find touristy t-shirts with molas attached and yes,Ihave seen bags. When we went there y ears ago they didn't have electricity, was not touristy and we managed to buy a beautiful wallyhanging..where you could see the pencil sketch.. I still have some t-shirts that we bought there and I hate the thoughts of disposing of them.. now tht the work has grown in value
Yes, now you have it.. If your seriously interested in a wall hanging look carefully to see if there are pencil sketches.. The other thing you can do is buy small little pieces the kids make and put them on for decoration..
