Default Jewelry?

1st trip to the western caribbean (cozumel, gc, belize and costa maya), should we buy loose gem stones or already made jewelry? Which is a better deal?

I read somewhere that if you buy loose gems and the setting separate you will save substantially on duty tax.

For example....if you are thinking about buying a very large diamond, buy the stone and setting separately. You will not be taxed like you would if you bought it as one piece.

Check on the internet for duty taxes in the ports you will be.

Find out how much you are allowed to bring back without paying a duty tax.

Every island and port is different.
