I went last year and all I heard about while on the ship and in nassau was the diamonds, does anyone know if they really are a great deal?? 8)

Check out John Bull, the prettiest store in the Caribbean...perfume, fabulous jewley, and leather goods...even a grand piano! I have found good deals shopping in this port..they have a straw market and faux bags too.

Forget the diamonds. Unless you are an expert, it isn't possible to determine the quality of a stone, which determines the value. I have heard many stories of people who bought expensive jewelry on cruises only to find out back home that they had overpaid big time. If you fall in love with a piece and want it as a pricey souvenir, go for it if you can afford it. But, don't expect a bargain price. Those diamond stores are owned by a company here in the US, counting on people thinking they are getting a great deal because they bought it somewhere else.

It all depends on what you want to buy, our money is equal to the american dollar and you don't have to try to exchange it because we use it over here.

As Trip has mentioned, the faux bags seem to be big. DW came away with 5-6 on last trip to the Straw Market. That's what I get for hanging around in the internet cafe I guess.

The straw market is a hoot, so don't miss it. And they have started the construction on the larger facility to replace the present tent next door.
