Default St Thomas or St Martin?

Which has the best deals on Alcohol and jewlery? I might be going on a carnival southern caribbean cruise on the victory, and I was wondering which islands I should save my money for? I am grateful for any help. Thanks.

I always buy in St. Thomas

both are pretty reasonable, and duty free

buy at a place that delivers your liquor to the ship

don't have to worry about carrying it around with you

I think the hardest part is deciding to purchase in the first port or wait till you get to the other one, since so many itineraries have both ports. As the old saying goes, you snooze you lose....

Many of the big names have stores in both ports, but, that's no guarantee, the same item will be in the next port. I have bought baubles in both ports. Joes in St. Maarten, and I believe the name was, Diamonds in Paradise... sister store to Colombian Emeralds.

i agree with the others, you can find very similiar items and pricing on both islands, nothing stands out with the expection of GuavaBerry Liqueur on St. Martin, it is so yummy in a smoothie

We much prefer shopping in St. Maarten. Twice we purchased in St. Thomas (camera & watch) only to see better prices in St. Maarten. But it's not just about the prices-we find St. Maarten more tourist friendly. DH lounges on the beach while I shop one block away! And they've got the Belgium Chocolate Box who will deliver to the ship

I was once told by a very wise man that the jewelry was better in St. Martin. He was comparing my ring and earrings (bought in St. Martin) to my MILs (bought in St.Thomas). She wasn't happy when he said that in all his years he found much better deals in SM. Thanks for making my cruise, Kuki!!

Plus, hubby loved the dollar beers at the little stands on the street in SM!

Just remember to shop around at home before you visit the islands. In many cases you can find the good deals right around the corner, it will also give you the extra edge to know prices/quality, etc. Be a smart shopper.

In St Thomas a few years ago, we stumbled on a jeweler that we have been back to since. Renassiance Jewelers is the name of the place. They used to be in Drakes Passage but now they are on the main road. He is not associated with any cruise lines because he said he would have to raise his prices. We always feel we got a very good deal from him. We were there just 3 weeks ago and I did ALOT of shopping. Ask for Adrian... Tell him Cathy M sent you!! He will help you. They also have a clearance case which is where I got most of my things. They just happened to have things I liked at the time on sale.

BTW.... Tanzanite prices are lower now. They just opened another mine. I got a beautiful bracelet that was just put in the case that morning for a steal.....

I absolutely love tanzanite, but I thought there was only one mine, therefore the prices were high....Nice to know there is more where that came from :-)
