First let me say that i will never in life go back to jamaica.. Myself and hubby did a 5 day land tour. Boy we were never so glad to get out of a place in our lives! We are both police officers so its not like we are scared or frail. We went to town on a shopping tour and were harrassed so bad to buy dope that we seeked refuge in a Burger King for nearly 2 hours until the van came back to get us. It was so awful im still talking about it and its been 6 years! Never ever again...
Just wish they could do something there to clean up their act. That is such a put off for so many travelers, its really quite a beautiful island and more people would vacation there if these people didn't harass the travelers. I'd love to go back there some day and really see more of the island, but thats the one problem that I just don't want to deal with while on vacation.
Where in Jamacia was this? I have been to Ocho Rios four or five times now and have yet to have anyone offer to sell me dope. I have had vendors approach me but have always found a polite no thanks and smile works well for me. I am a retired LEO and don't know if they leave me alone because of the way I carry myself or what, but my wife and I always walk to town and wander around and have yet to have any problems. In fact, by showing these locals a sense of humor and respect we have been treated royally and have a great time.
I spent two weeks in Jamaica a few years ago. I was approached a few times but never harrased. If you get a chance experience the real Jamaica --- not just the tourist areas. I loved south/western Jamaica --- Black River and would love to go back the people were wonderful!!!
I have never been to Ocho, but will get the chance in a few weeks!
