curacao

will be going on HAL, and Curacao will one of our ports. Looking for a good excursion for 5 people. We have never been there before. How about the train or trolley tour? Your comments are appreciated.

We were there in Feb 01, Took the ships tour to the glass factory and around the city. We went on beautiful air conditioned buses. The city is 18 miles from the port. DO NOT go there alone. The city is not a safe place to be unescorted. I actually saw a guy selling huge daggers in the middle of the street (yes on the yellow line). I would say go, because it is something to see, how the city is built and the squatters houses on the hill sides. The glass factory had really great stuff, bring lots of money or credit cards for the "good stuff". Jeri

Re: curacao

I think Jerilyn is thinking of another port.(Maybe Cartenga).
Curacao is a very pleasant, safe stop. Very easy to just walk around on your own here. I dont really think u need any kind of excursion to enjoy this port.

I think Jenilyn is thinking of Caracus, Venezula since she mentioned the glass factory. That is the Murano Glass factory.

Curacao is the Dutch island near Aruba and a delightful place to go to. The City of Willemstad is very quaint and build in Dutch style architecture and brightly painted. It is a small desert island. You might just hire a taxi for the day to save money. Find a driver that speaks good English and you should be alright. Shopping is good here, especially for perfumes and colognes from Europe.

Since this is a desert island, all the food is brought in by boat. Dont miss the boats with their produce tied up in the market area with the multi-colored awnings erected over the food stands. The ship docks right down town; any easy walk over the pontoon bridge. Don't forget to bring your camera. There is a lot to take photos of in this port.

Hi Baybrook,
We once took a snorkeling tour through the ships excersions and it was really good if you like to snorkel. We had to snorkel off the boat, but we say a lot of nice fish, next trip we just walked around town, very nice friendly town.
