Jamaica Safe or Sorry

I am starting to book our shore excursions for our Jan,2002 sailing. Is is safe to book on our own (our ship will dock at Montego Bay) or should I book with RCI"S ship"s excursion"s? I wanted to do Peat Taylor but I don"t think he does tours from Montego Bay.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

If u prefer a private, yet safe, tour rather than the cruise line buses, try www.portpromo.com.

Had excellent tours from them in Jamaica.
