Best Luau in Hawaii?
I am taking going to be visiting Honolulu and Lahaina in May on a cruise. We will be overnight in both those ports and I am wondering which Luau is the best? I have heard that some are really bad, and I want to treat my mom to something special since she is treating me to the cruise.

Hi Shelly,
We have a CruiseMates group cruise going on the Celebity Summit May13. We've organized a luau for a group excursion. Chose the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui. Found quite a number of sources and people who name it the best Luau in the Islands.

Re: Best Luau in Hawaii?
Thank you for the suggestion! I am on the Spirit sailing May 3 from Honolulu to Vancouver(12 nites!) Wish I would have checked out cruise mates just for some built in buddies! But our agent got a good deal and is transporting a lot of us to the airport for the cruise so I think we will have fun and meets lots of new people before the ship anyway.

Just saw an episode of Emrol on the food channel . It came from the Old Lahiana
Luau in Maui and it looked fabulous.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Old Lahaina seems to get all the votes! I am treating my mom to thank her for taking me on the cruise. I am SO excited. Only 25 or so days:)

May 3, Carnival Spirit, Honolulu to Vancouver, 12 nights

Re: Best Luau in Hawaii?
Hi Shelly:

Old Lahaina Luau on Maui is definitely the most authentic, but it doesn't have some of the flashy things most of us mainlanders think about seeing at a luau such as people dancing with fire, etc. Those flashier elements are really more Polynesian than Hawaiian.

Most major hotels also have luaus, but they don't necessarily offer them every night like Old Lahaina so call ahead to find out what's available on the day you'll be in port.
