We have decided to take the Dunns River tour but we do not owe any water shoes. I've heard that they are the best for climbing the falls. I tried everywhere and they are not to be found in California. Can you purchase them at the Falls? Are they really expensive? Any other suggestions for footwear?
we have the Teva type water sandals and they are great, a bit on the expensive side, but you get a lot of wear out of them, check with sporting goods stores like Dicks, East Mountain sports, Olympia. If not an old pair of canvas tennis sneakers with rubber soles work great, you just need something that has a bit of grip.
I finally found some, well at least for myself and children, I did find a pair for my husband but unfortunately they are one size too big. They fit okay, but I'am wondering what will happen when the water hits.
You simply leave everything you don't need to climb the falls in the tour bus, they will have it locked and secured. We did bring along our camera and our guide for the falls was nice enough to carry them for us and even take a picture of us with our camera. We even left all our cash on the bus and realized we didn't have any to tip him, he was happy to follow us back to our bus to collect :-)
When we went in 1999 on RCI, water shoes were availalbe for purchase on the ship. We just wore old athletic shoes that we could throw away afterwards. You'll have a great time, it's an awsome climb. (Though I am still not sure if I climbed the falls or
if the guy in front of me just pulled me up.) I used a water camera for pix.
