i've decided to take a taxi to the falls instead of booking an excursion on the ship. the falls is only $10adult. how much do you think a taxi to the falls will be? they want $65 for the excursion on imagination.
Can't remember what a taxi fare is to the Falls, but a whole lot less than $55. The best part about not taking the ship's excursion is that you'll most likely find the Falls not so crowded. The Falls are beautiful, and you can lounge on the beach at the base of the Falls.
We are going on a Cruise in June and I am looking forward to going to Dunns Riverfalls is it a must see for the amount of time your there or would you advise something else. Thanks for your imput. Denise
My travel agent told me NOT to book this thru the ship, but to get yourself a govt. aproved taxi agree on the price first and off you go, MUCH cheaper!!!And more time to enjoy the falls. Michelle cruising on 6/12/04
In April we took Peat Taylor's tour. He drove us through Fern Gully and the Jamaican countryside before bringing us to Dunns River Falls. Once at the falls, his son escorted us in and hooked us up with a guide. You must use a guide to go up the falls. They lead you up, will take pictures of you with your own camera and there will also be someone there filming the whole thing. I gave the guy who took pictures of us with our camera a fee bucks at the end. Also, I ended up buying the DVD at the end - bargained down to $35 from $40. While the part about Jamaica is real cheesy - nothing more than commercials by the tourism industry, the 12 minutes of film of our family climbing the falls is a nice rememberance of our day. After the falls, Peat took us back to the ship for lunch and then met us an hour later to take us downtown tot he shopping area. He was then available to take us back to the ship. Cost per person was $30 and that included the $10 admission fee to the falls. It was well worth the cost - I highly recommend Peat. Do a google for Peat Taylor and then send him an email.
SandyK, Your experience looks great. Is it worth it to follow your path, budgetwise, if I have only me and my wife. How much in total did it cost you? The important question: is it safe to do it on our own in Jamaica. I will go on a Western Carribean cruise in June. Dunn fall will be my only excursion through the ship, because I am not confident with the safety there.
