I want to go into the little village close to Costa Maya. Would it be better to go into the village by renting a golf cart, (there will be 4 of us) or taking a taxi? I would like to make a visit to the schools, stop by the beach, look around the village and then go back to the pier for shopping. Also, does anyone know if the schools are open in July?
Last month we came back from our cruise and Costa Maya was one of our stops also. I loved the villiage, it was my favorite excursion. We took a taxi in, we loved it there so much, we decided to stay the whole time there on the beach. We played, ate and shopped right there. The shopping is mostly nic-nacky stuff, but we got a great deal on some hammocks and a few other souvineer type stuff, we werent into the big expensive shopping for jewelry or liquer, they did have some silver and torqoise, cuban cigars, handmade clothing that was beautiful. They ask for kinda high prices, but if you turn and walk away they will offer it for half of the original price and you can still talk them down from that. We got two hammocks for $38.00 which was a steel, I almost felt guilty. We bought a hammock here in the states a couple of months ago and spent $100.00 on one on sale from Target. So we got a great deal in Costa Maya. I think that the schools are open in the summer. I did not go myself, but from what I heard from others, it was just a very short walk from the beach area. We had no problems with the taxis. I think it was about $3.00 per person to ride. When were ready to leave there were taxis lined up waiting. So no problems. But it might have been fun to have a golf cart. Next time we might try that. Goodluck and have fun no matter what you decide. ~K~
