Default Stingray City & Snorkeling

We have heard Stingray City is wonderful. I have seen on the message boards that Soto & Capt. Marvins would be a good outfitter to go with. Do either of these take you snorkeling too? If so, is the snorkeling for beginners? We have never snorkeled before, but what to see the beautiful fish. We would like to do Stingray City & snorkeling in the same excursion if possible. Any ideas?

We went with Soto's Cruises and had a great time. Stopped at two sites for snorkeling and then went to the Sting Ray sandbar. Total trip time was about 2.5 hours. We are all novice snorkelers. They made sure our equipment (which they provided) fit properly and gave some instruction. They caught an eel for us to see and sting rays at the sandbar. I would highly recommend them.

Nativeways was great for us. One or two snorkelling stops, plus stingray city- $25 per person. I highly recommend them. Ask for some instruction and they will help you - it's really easy though. Wish I was going back!!

We went with Captain Marvin - 2 stops - one just for snorkeling and the other at StingRay City/Sandbar. There really isn't any snorkeling at the sandbar as the water is only about waist deep. You stand in the water, the rays swim around you, you can pet or feed them if you wish. Great experience, do it again in a heartbeat. The snorkeling is very easy and they have a dive master who will give you instructions and stay with you if needed.

I am cruising on Carnival Inspiration in Feb 05. Any previous cruisers advice, opinions would be welcomed.

Am looking to do alot of snorkeling and have heard alot about Stingray City, planning to do that for sure.

Is transportation pretty available if you don't do the shore excursions thru the ship?

Itching to go.........

They say right now that there is not many cars for rent due to Ivan many locals are renting them while they make repairs. But there is always drivers and tour operators waiting for you when you get off the ship. Taking the time while your waiting to go to figure out the best sites is the only thing that helps me wait to go!! Have a great time we will be there in December, can't wait.

CPAL .. I second Captain Marvin's. Just used them on 11/2. About a 5 minute walk from the pier (to the left). 3 hour snorkeling/stingray tour. Van leaves store at 9:30... back to store by 1:30. 2 snorkeling stops and then the stingrays. $39.00. They supply equipment, water and fruit punch. They also offer a snorkeling vest, so if you are a beginner, you don't have to worry about staying afloat. The water is so clear that you can see pretty much everything from the surface. Definitely recommend them. Hopefully this will answer your questions. Email if you have any other questions. fbe2228@sbcglobal.net
