Default Best place to see ruins - Belize or Costa Maya?

Hi,
My husband and I along with his 75 year old mother (in average health) will be taking our first cruise on Royal Caribbean "Splendor of the Seas" in 3 weeks, 3 days, 14 hours. What we were wanting to know is if the ruins on Belize are better than Costa Maya or vice versa.

We're currently signed up to take a tour to see the Kohlunlich ruins on Costa Maya but I just read an article in the Travel and Leisure magazine speaking highly of the ruins on Belize. HELP!! I don't which one would be better.

Thanks for your input! This has been a great site to access for all sorts of information.

Sincerely,
Victoria

We did the shore excursion to the ruins in Costa Maya and it was fantastic. It was extremely HOT once we got to the site so bring some bottled water with you. We took lots of pictures of the ruins and they are impressive.

Lamanai in Belize is an incredible site and to get there you have to take a boat up a jungle river, really incredible. Lamanai Tour Picture and info the site is hidden in the jungle and we saw monkeys and an aligator, or crocodile, forget which one.

In Costa Maya we did a beach break party and a snorkeling trip. Total for both tours was $50 and included open bar at the beach break. Both were booked through http://costamayacruiseexcursions.com
