Cozumel tours

Has anyone done the catameran tour that Carnival offers? Is it anygood or is a person better off going on their own to a place like Dzul-Ha?

The Fury Catamaran tours are fun, but it's really like a Spring Break on the water. The snorkeling was not so good when we went but the sail, the bar and the beach break were really fun. Many people have trouble getting off the boat when the trip is over if you know what I mean. It's fun to watch people who have had to much disembark the catamaran. If you want to snorkel, I recommend Chankanaab Park. Excellent. If you want to party, the Fury Catamaran is a great little trip.

Do you book Chankanaab Park through Carnival? We want to snorkel, but not with a million other people...is this still a good place for that? Know of any good beaches with fewer people, but clean, good food and drink?

Snorkeled on a ship tour last May, the snorkeling isn't exactly awesome, but enjoyable. This May we will be renting a car and getting a list of shore snorkels to do from the web site CozumelMyCozumel. It pretty much lays it on the line on where to go. You are able to snorkel anywhere, just remember, if its' a sandy beach, there will be no fish. You need to go where there are rocky areas, cause that's what fish use for cover.
The car will allow you to explore anywhere you like.

We went to Chankanaab and really enjoyed it; great snorkeling! It is spread out enough that it didn't feel crowded at all. You just catch a taxi over for about $10 per taxi, and admission to the park is $12 per person. You can rent snorkel equipment there too. It's a really nice place to spend the day. There are no pushy vendors, the grounds are beautiful, the bathrooms are clean. You can also walk on the nature trail with replica Mayan ruins (interesting, not cheesy) or play mini-golf (very small course). There are big iquanas everywhere---but don't worry, they won't bother you. There's also a bar/restaurant and, if you sit on the beach near there, they will bring food/drinks to you if you want; but will not bother you if you don't want to order. Any other questions, feel free to ask. This place was the highlight of our last cruise (family of 4, including 2 teenage boys).
