Can you get your hairbraided in Coco Cay?

Is it better to have it done on Coco Cay rather than in Nassau? I hear that it can get a bit annoying wiith the locals asking to have your hairbraided? Do you know the cost?
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know how much it is. We didn't do it as I know someone that did on her cruise last year and she ended up with head lice. Keep in mind they use the same comb on everyone. You also have it done on the ship in the salon, which is where I think I would have it done.

I've also heard that they use the same combs over and over. When I go back to Nassau on a cruise in April, I will try to look and see what they do with the combs... if they clean them or not in between.

Anyway, two years ago in Nassau, they braided my niece's hair so tight, she cried all day and night of a headache. We thought it was the sun, then we finally realized it was the braids! (out they came!)

You can get them to lower the price. They first wanted $3 a braid and settled for a $1 a braid.

I have bought some combs to take with us. Someone suggested doing it at the ships beatuty salon. We are sailing on the Majesty in two weeks but I don't think it is possible to get a price list of their services. I would rather not do it at all than risk head lice.

milly, you will pay double if you get it done in the salon on the ship. I would choose to have it done on Coco Cay over Nassau only because on Coco Cay the cruise line has some control over the vendors being that its their private island. Bring your own combs.
You can get just a couple done if you just want to give it a try. You don't have to get your whole head done, lots of girls just get a couple done to frame their face.

My daughter got hers braided on Coco Cay- we had our own comb- I had read to bring one. She only got the top of her head braided and they charged us $40 then wanted a tip on top of that- one of her little friends got hers done in Nassau- full head and only paid about $25 plus tip- so, I would say Nassau is cheaper.

I have to tell you, I think that the whole thing is a gamble. My daughter is 13 and the only thing that she asks for on our cruises is to get her hair braided. 2 years ago, she got it done in the Bahamas for 35.00. They did a decent job, but the comb thing worried me and they wouldn't even let her pick out the color beads they used. Last year she got it done in a shop in Cozumel for 30.00, no beads. Anyway.....by the next morning, the rubber bands were breaking and the braids were coming out. She was so upset that my husband took her to the salon on the ship and it was done over for 60.00. Lesson learned. At least if you get it done on the ship and something goes wrong you can do something about it.
