Default shore excursion

Hi I am going on a Southern Carribean cruise on Carnival Destiny July 24 and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for the excursions. I will be stopping at St. Thomas and thinking of taking the ferry over to St. Johns do I book an excursion or can I just get there by taxi and ferry by myself? Also have a total of 8 people in all. Thanks!

Hi Diane,
Yes, you can get a taxi over to Red Hook ferry and ferry over to St. John, you don't have to do a ship excursion, but just allow for travel time.

Here is a link to the ferry schedule and prices:

Red Hook Ferry Schedule

If you plan the day early, you can head over there first thing, come back for a late lunch and get some shopping done by the pier, we've done that before too. You can also rent snorkel equipment right on the beach at Trunk Bay if you are headed there.

Thanks so much. I did read that getting a taxi to Red Hook is easy but after getting off the Ferry at St. Johns to get to Trunk bay there were not too many taxis available. Do you find this to be true because of course with 8 people I will need two taxis? Thanks so much for the info and writing back.

There should be enough taxi's once you get to St. Johns, they seat quite a few people, you should all fit in one.

Diane - there are lots of taxis available at Cruz Bay on St. John Island , they are open-air jitney type taxis, your group can all go in one ride. Just walk to the end of the pier and the taxis will be there. To research the beaches go to www.vinow.com

Check out this link. It is to a great video diary of the Carnival Destiny cruise. It shows the ship and shore excursions from every port. If you use windows media player be sure to right clik and watch it at 200%. The scenery is awesome.
