Default Snorkeling in Cozumel

We will be in Cozumel in late December. My teenagers wanted to do the Atlantis submarine, which I had to book directly with them because Carnival was not offering it. We really want to snorkel in Cozumel. Can someone tell me the best place to snorkel? We have a noon reservation for the Atlantis submarine, but I could probably change the time to earlier in the morning.

The only snorkeling offered through Carnival is at 9 in the morning, and I don't think we can do it and get to the submarine in time. So, I'm looking for a safe place to go and snorkel during the afternoon.

I would try to change the submarine ride to the morning, get back to the ship to eat lunch and then take a taxi to Chankanaab for the afternoon. It's a marine preserve so it has wonderful snorkeling. There are also palapas and lounge chairs, a nature walk, replica Mayan ruins (actually quite interesting), a small miniature golf, a restaurant and a couple of bars, a small shopping "village" and clean bathrooms! There is an admission charge of $12, which I think is well worth it if you can spend a few hours there. You can rent snorkel equipment there, or just bring your own. This is the same place that offers the dolphin and sea lion swims (optional, and extra charge, of course). It is very safe and there are no vendors on the beach, besides the waiter who will bring drinks to you if you want. Nobody pushing to make you buy anything once you are in park. Try searching for Chankanaab on google and you should find more information and pictures.

You could also do Chankannab in the morning and the submarine in the afternoon........

kcmom:

Check out cozumelinsider.com. They have several snorkeling options at different times during the day. I booked an excursion with them last year and was very happy with their service. I booked another one with them for my upcoming cruise. Sherri answers emails promptly and is great to deal with.

If you are willing to give up the sub tour you can do an amazing snorkeling tour out to the Palencaar Reef . You can't do both. The reef is amazing.
