keeping valuables safe

I'm going on a cruise for the first time in Feb 2007. What is the best way to keep my personal valuable safe during excursions. For example, when going snorkling, are there lockers provided on the boats for your items? What items should we bring on shore excursions? Thanks

HI Mary,
Just bring enough cash for the day, leave the rest in your safe in the cabin. If you are doing an excursion, going on a boat to snorkel, you'll just leave your stuff ont he boat while you are in the water. Be sure to bring your sign sail card. You can also purchase a waterproof card holder onboard if you want to take that with you.

We put our valuables in our water wallets. These are cases about the size of a pack of cigarettes that we hang either around our necks, hooked around the strap of my swimsuit, or put into a velcroed pocket. I have seen these for sale on most ships. Some people just use double bagged ziplocks for their $$ and ID, and then secure them in a swimsuit pocket. (Safety pins would work to close your pocket safely.) We do not take our good camera w/ us if we are going to a beach. If we are going on a boat excursion, we do take it, though. (Cameras are pretty safe on that type of excursion.) We do take disposable underwater cameras with us if we are going in the water. You can get them for under $10 at Walmart, or a similar store. We like the Fuji the best. I put one of our address labels on ours so that we can identify them from other people's cameras.
