St.Thomas, Antiqua, Barbados, St.Kitts, St.Martin, Dominica,

Hi, We are booked for a 12 nights Southern Caribbean RCI cruise Feb. 3rd. I noticed that some of you have taken Land tours instead of using the Ships. Where do you find out about these tours???????? The ships tours seem to charge 30 and above for each tour. We are 3 seniors who have to save money for the next cruise. Thanks in Advance!!!

most of us have found out about independant land tours by experience, word of mouth and cruisemates! Give us general information as to what you are looking to do, what your interests are and we can make some suggestions. If you find a tour thru the cruiseline that you really like, give us the information and we might be able to steer you towards an independant tour

Ladies, if this is your first cruise, I would suggest that you book any shore excursions thru the cruise line. Independent tours are generally less expensive BUT you will be on your own if there is a problem with your tour guide, returning to the ship on time, etc. Booking excursions thru the cruise line will alleviate any concerns about where to meet, mode of travel, duration of trip, safety, and timely return to the ship. Once you are an experienced cruiser, I believe you will be more comfortable booking thru independent tour operators. There are a lot of seniors and single women cruising who might feel vulnerable in a foreign location. Women who are accustomed to traveling with a male companion might feel more comfortable and adventuresome than a female who is traveling alone or with other women.

This is my 4th cruise. The first 2 I was pulled along by my El-cheep-o sister. The 3rd cruise was with a family group of 10 to Alaska where I found out what excursions were and spent over 600. on ship excursions and not sorry about it. We are looking for about 3 hrs. of beach time with some shopping and sightseeing. We want to go to megans bay take the sky tram in st thomas. go to orient beach and an island tour in st martens, and what else, we are not sure. Thanks for your input.

Magens Bay in St. Thomas is beautiful and a short taxi ride to the beach. Orient Beach is lovely and has restaurants, bars and restrooms available. The only other destination that I have been to is Antigua. We booked a shore excursion to Prickly Pear Island, a real adventure and breathtakingly beautiful.

Meagan's Bay Beach is a gorgeous beach, it can get crowded and is a bit of a tourist trap imo, if you want to snorkel there is no snorkeling at Meagan's Bay Beach- just grab a cab at the pier. If you dock at Havensight you can actually walk to the Paradise Point SkyTram.
Orient Beach is a beautiful beach again just grab a cab at the pier.

St. Thomas - the Atlantis Sub and Coral World are cool, if expensive. If the Atlantis is too dear, you can always dive down to 120 ft to see the sharkies. Odd, I've yet to see any divers down there when traveling in the sub. LOL

cassrib - in St. Thomas if you want to treat yourself then i would highly recommend the Champagane Catamaran sailway to St.John island, it is one of the best excursions imo.

Ladies,
I would like to second the poster who suggested that you take ship's tours. Yes, they are more expensive, but not as expensive as ending up missing the ship and having to fly to the next port to catch the ship. Plus, in some ports, you need to consider safety. They are not like home..that's the point of going, but better to come back safe than to have a few bucks toward the next trip. MUCH better!
