Default Livorno shore excursion?

Could someone please help with these questions.

1. Has anyone rented a car in Livorno and driven to Pisa and Florence? If so, how was the driving situation and the parking in Florence? Also, if you spent a couple of hour in Florence (I know, what's the hurry?), but if I did, would I be able, with a rental car, still be able to see Lucca and Pisa?

2. How often do the trains run from Livorno to Florence?

3. Does the train stop in Pisa on the way back?

4. Is there a train from Florence to Lucca? Lucca to Pisa?

Last year we were on the Grand Med cruise from Rome on the Freedom. Through another cruise board we found a 4-some who had booked a day's tour with a private guide. We took the tour with them and loved it. Papillion tours arranged for a mini van to pick up the 6 of us at the ship. The guide took us to Florence and to see the Pisa. In Florence she prearranged for tickets to the Accadamia Gallery to see The David. When we arrived we bypassed the line around the block and walked right in. The guide took us to a small local restaurant for lunch. Lunch was not included in the price, but very reasonable and quite good. Our total cost for the day was approximately 100 euros each. At the end of the day, the guide gave each couple a gift of wine and biscotti. If you want to PM me, I will be happy to give you more info.

Here is a link to the national italy train service. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html You can run checks to see when the trains run. However, you do need a way to get to the train station. BTW shopping in Livorno is cheaper than the other ports so you may want to save time for that. Pisa and Lucca are much closer then Florence which is about an hour and a half from the port. If I did it again I wouldn't book a shore x to Pisa not much there and the tour guide is hard to hear so I missed a lot of what she said. I would never ever drive in Italy. I'm a California driver and even I don't drive that fast.
