Default WHAT DO I DO IN NASSAU, BAHAMAS OFF-SHORE?

Hello Everyone,

I'm going to the Bahamas @ the end of this Month 9/28/08

I'm really excited, like everyone one else on the their first cruise.

I wanted to know does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do outside of the boat in Nassau.

Has anyone done any excursions within the past year, if so where did they go, what did they do and about how much am I looking to pay.

I'd take the water taxi over to Atlantis on Paradise Island, do the tour and still have time for some shopping in town. You can also do a ship excursion or do it on your own, if not the water taxi, regular taxi's will take you there, the "dig", aquarium is a must see.

Very well worth it!

I have to agree with Donna. We did Atlantis in 2006 and I thought the whole thing was awesome! Hand blown glass sculptures in the hotel, the walk through the underwater display, a little history lesson, etc. It was great! Do it and listen closely to how cheap you can rent the piece of hotel that spans the two major hotel buildings!

Default Nassau on you own

I took a number 10 jitney bus to Ardastra Gardens and Zoo, walked to the Fish Fry/Arwak Cay for a very good inexpensive lunch, this area is lovely with outdoor eaterys looks like Key West and food is way cheaper then downtown Nassau. We then followed the signs to the Gardens (just ask the locals) the bus cost $1 or $2 the zoo about $12 well worth it, it's a small lovely zoo were you can get up close and personal with the animals. Make sure to see the Marching Flamingo show where you watch trained flamingos march, and find out the feeding times for the lory parrots, where you go inside the enclosure and hand feed these beautiful birds! We got our photo taken with a huge Mccaw for just a donation to the zoo also. The zoo staff was very helpful and called a taxi for our return cost $14 we still had time to shop downtown before returning to our ship. Over all this way the best shore day I did, and I spent the least amount of money and saw a part of the island not as many tourists get to see. You can get a brocure on the zoo at the information desk when you exit your ship in the terminal. I highly reccomend this if you like animals and want to get away from the crowds!

Definitely do something --- like an excursion or go to Atlantis. Nassau isn't the greatest place to just walk around. You need a plan.

Here's a link for a walking tour that the site says takes about two hours:

http://www.frommers.com/destinations...251010008.html

They also provide a map to follow as well as a lot of other interesting information. Our ship is in Nassau from 8-6 so we plan to do the tour and a little shopping in the morning, and go to Ardastra or a public beach for a couple hours in the afternoon.[/url]
