Now that I'm older (44), I seem to prefer the jet ski tours, while many of my 20 something nieces find them a bore. They want to jump waves and do tricks - which are generally not allowed on the safer 'tours'.
I have had a tour operator in Key West allow us to design our experience, since we had 9 people and were the entire tour. We asked for 10 minutes of playtime for the crazy's in our group.
Freestyle makes me feel like I'm just riding around with no purpose, basically going in circles. But, on a tour, we put some miles under us and head to destinations.
What do others prefer and why?
I would not feel safe doing free style because I would think a lot of young people are drinking (partying) and with freestyle there is no structure, so you have to basically have eyes in the back of your head to keep an eye on who is coming from where TOWARDS YOU.
Just my opinion.
Freeport jet ski tour - loved it, we had opportunity to play some, i.e. we were only 3 in the group and were not so single file.
Co Co Cay - done the tour 4 times (5 coming up this weekend and 6 coming up in Sept). LOVE it, horseplay is not allowed.
I've done both and believe it or not, I enjoyed the tour better. At times during the tour, the guide would stop and give us some general information about the fish/area that we are in, etc. You don't get that otherwise and it was very interesting.
