Default Beach hotel excursions

We were looking at going to one of the hotels and spending the day using the beach and hotel. The cruise lines offer excursions, as well as some private companies. My question is, Can you just do it yourself? I mean go to the resort, perhaps pay them a small fee for the use of their facilities or a meal? Or it that a no-no, in that they want you to arrange it with the excursion companies or ships? (The place we are looking at is close enough to walk or take a taxi.)

If the hotel is all -inclusive you will have to pay, last time I asked something like Sandals was US$100 /person a day. You can usually do this yourself but there is always the chance they won't allow it. There are companies that you can book things like this, but sorry I don't know who they are. On the other hand if the hotel is not AI you could probably just wander in, do the decent thing & spend some money there, have lunch etc...

What island are you planning this for? I would call the hotels directly..there is no reason why you cannot do it on your own, just be very aware of the times, possibly ship time vs port time, to get back to the ship on time.

Once we know the island, other hotel options might might be suggested.

Actually it's for Cabo. Not sure of the name of the hotel, just one of the ones along the beach.
