Default compare a carnival cruise to an all-inclusive resort

Can someone talk about the difference between an all inclusive vacation in the caribbean, and a cruise for a family with children ages 11, 8, and 6. Please include the price difference and activities and entertainment for children at an all-inclusive resort. [/b]

It depends on the resort and where it is. If you fly to Cabo, then there's a large price for the flight. If your flying to San Juan then there's the large price for the flight.

The biggest difference I found was Booze. All inclusive adult bevs are included. You pay extra on the ship. The other big difference is that you don't travel anywhere or see any other places then the place your all inclusive resort is.

Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

its like apples and oranges....hugely different.

I've done a ton of all inclusives, and if i'm really wanting to see an area, then thats a good deal. However, i really saw all i wanted to see of the Caymans on our day trip off the ship. Jamaica, i'll never visit again all inclusive, but loved it from the ship....

I'd like to spend more time in Cozumel some day and believe it or not i'd love to go back to progresso and stay close to the ruins for a week and really explore.

Ok, price, its all relative. Lots of inclusive resorts give you access to water sports etc...where on a cruise everything on board is inclusive except cokes and liquer. Price....well i think the cruises are a way better deal, i've seen cruises going from florida to rome for 13 days cheaper than flying from florida to rome....same thing for cruising to mexico for 5 nights being cheaper than a flight. That being said, i usually spend an extra 1,000 during a cruise for drinks and excursions/gambling/shopping etc.

It all really depends on if you book expensive excursions, and if you book thru the ship ($$$) or on your own ($), if you drink or not, and most importantly if you gamble ($$$$ i suck).

As far as kids go...my son summed it up perfectly.... After a 5 night cruise to cozumel and progresso (he was forced to do the educational thing in progresso, the chichen itza ruins) i asked him which he liked better.....(he's 11 and was 10 at disney)

8 nights at disney with a 7 night beach trip afterwards (our last big vacation) or the 5 night cruise.

He couldnt decide. I know i paid 1,000 for 3 of us for a cruise but 7,000 for 4 of us to do disney....he's a kid, so i really thought it would be a no brainer, but he loved the cruise so much its all he talks about. Mickey be damned!

You have my kinda sense of humor, NP...You're a nurse and I work in law enforcement so I'm guessing you have a bit of a gallow humor side that most folks not in our profession usually find appaling...Which is half the fun of having it!

Both cruising and all inclusives are very nice.
Tours are extra on either one.
Now the big difference is you dont have to pay for drinking all
day long. Save several hundred dollars with that.
Pricing with out the drinking on the ship they run about the same
price. IF you are a big drinker inclusive is the way to
I cruise once a year and do all inclusive's twice a year.
Now it depends on where you are going.
If you are a beach person for the most part that would be the
best fly right to the island and lay on the beach all week.
I cant give up cruising cause its kind of nice to see several places
in a week. Then when I want to really relax off to a island for a week.
Just lay on the beach all day.
Both have many things for kids to do.
We go to Punta Cana and love it there. Now the big thing is do your
home work before booking for a week. Make sure the place has every
thing you want. I stay at the same place every time in Punta.
Apple reps are wonderful and there everyday to see to your needs
at your hotel. Just like the cruise people are on the ship to take care
of everything for you.

I don't have small children as my children are adults but I would bet they would rather be on the ship than stuck in a room at a hotel.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Courage and perserverance have a magical talisman; before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into the air.

Pick your company wisely! Hang around people who are going to help you become all God created you to be.

I went to cuba last summer to an all-inclusive after only really ever doing cruises (9 in about 5 years). Although I really did like the resort, and it was goog not to have to pay for drinks - the one thing that I really did not enjoy was there was not much to do at night time. I coud sit and listen to a band but there was not any type of real show. I know that most of the shows on cruise ships are cheesy - but even the bad ones I find entertaining. Coupling with that late night movies, comedians, and the chance to go to a casino, I would take the cruise in a heart beat (doiung two this summer to make up for last year). I think it really comes down to whether you are on vacation for fun or for relaxation.
