Default Booking a room on guarantee, chances of upgrade???

I was offered a 6A room guarantee. What are my chances of an upgrade and if so how high? Is it possible to get a balcony?

It's possible. Not terribly likely......but possible. Never book a rome on the basis of a possible upgrade. Always book whatever cabin/class of cabin you would like to stay in. On Carnival, I've never gotten an "upgrade". Other who've sailed with me have always gotten upgrades.

There doesn't appear to be any "rhyme or reason" in the decision process. At least none that we've figured out.

My experience with a guarentee room has always been favorable as you will never getr down graded. If you are set in having a special cabin then do not go this way.Almost always under guarentee you will be upgraded from the pricing structure you started with .It is important to remember you can have a minimum of 3 grades even on one deck. The majority of upgrades will be a moving up on various decks and will not result in any larger rooms.Going from the inside to outside or to a balcony is the exception to the norm .

On our first cruise, not booked through Carnival, we booked 13 months in advance and did a OV guarentee and were upgraded to a Cat. 11 suite. My husband and myself as well as friends traveling with us. 2 suites for the price of OV!!!!!!!! I have been told that it doesn't happen often but it happened to us!

We also booked a 7A guarantee and when I logged on the other day we had a cabin number. 8142....looks like an extended balcony on the highest deck.....whoopee!

Nicnat - I truly hope your guarantee upgrade works out that way for you. However, you have to remember that it could still change up to the day of sailing. You really don't know until you get to the terminal.

Jgeiger - Any time you book guarantee, you are taking your chances on being put anywhere on the ship. I did guarantee only once - never again. I had a most undesirable cabin location. I book only assigned cabins now, so I'm never disappointed.

We always book the lowest category available (usually a 1a) as a guarantee because we just don't care We will stay in the bunkbeds happily because we will be saving a pretty nice amount of money. However, we always cross our fingers for an upgrade just because it feels great to get more than you paid for

The cruise coming up in a week will make #3. On the Destiny we went from 1a to 4a, Triumph: 1a to 4C, and now the Miracle: we went from a 4a (they don't have 1a's) to a 7a!!! All three times we have paid for the lowest possible room and have gotten upgraded each time. We have yet to sleep separately (or snuggled into a twin) for a cruise and we are so happy! And this will be the first time with a view of the ocean.......not to mention a balcony yay!

Keep in mind, we are two late 20's/early 30's students who must vaca on the cheap! But in exchange for not worrying about hotel rooms etc (which we never are in for much time) we have been on many wonderful vacations.

That's just the way we do things. Plus, it almost feels like buying a lottery ticket that is guaranteed to, at the very least, win you unlimited food and most beverages, turn-down service, and carribbean sunshine..........you will definitely get all of that PLUS the chance for an even "better" cabin.
