Default Swollen feet & ankles

My husband & I are in our late 60's. We took our 1st cruise. Three days out to sea my feet and ankles swelled so bad that I couldn't put my shoes on. The same thing happened to my husband but not as bad. After we got home from the cruise on the third day my feet and his went down. Was this from the salt in the food that we are not used to or was it maybe that we were not drinking enough water? Any information you may have on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Shirley

Shirley, I asked John (the Pharmasist) the very same question almost 2 years ago. I am in my early 50's, don't consume extra salt at all, initially when I started to cruise I was very slim and active and yet my feet still swelled up like yours to a point of not being able to put on shoes. I tried one recommended product: Deep sold by Steiner's of London on board cruise ship's at their spa. It did not work for me. I just limit my salty food intake like bacon and gravies, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and have found that wearing snug tennis style socks with sneakers during the day, helps keep the swelling to a minimum. I now bring strapey sandal for evening and daytime dress wear as they are easier to adjust. Just like you, once I am back home for 48hrs. I am back to normal. I know this doesn't help much, but you are not alone.
bon Voyage

Shirley also gave another possible reason in her note...do check your hydration staus. On board ship, we tend to consume a little more alcohol (qutie dehydrating) or get so caught up in having fun, we forget to keep up the proper amounts of fluid intake. If that happen, our bodies generally try to compensate by retaining fluid.

I'm glad you remembered our previous conversations, Nana...you are a pretty sage information source yourself!

Enjoy a cruise!
