Default My Whaling Poem (very manly)

I have always loved the songs of the sea and all yhe old whaling ditties, so I decided o write my own sea melody about the romance of sailing.

Wailing

Our ship is rolling in the wind,
And I've no love for sailin.
I long to be back home again,
And to put an end to whalin.

Chorus:
So raise those tattered sails once more.
If I get home, I'll stay on shore.

Our captain's voice is harsh and deep,
The first mate's full of warning.
They have me swabbing all the decks
At six o'clock each morning.

Repeat Chorus

The cook is fat and smells of grease.
He gives us scanty rations.
And I have gotten very ill
On foods from many nations.

Repeat Chorus

We've chased the whales around Cape Horn
And trolled the North Atlantic.
Our entertainment is bad rum,
And scurvy's not romantic.

Repeat Chorus

The girls in port all treat us nice.
The give us love for money,
And when we leave, they wave goodbye
And wait for their next honey.

Repeat Chorus

The waves are washing on the deck.
The ship is creaking badly,
And if I live just one more day,
Ill leave the sea quite gladly.

Repeat Chorus

Paul B

Doesn't that make you want to cruise on a big beautiful ship?

Now, what might the sailor say after he has been back on land for a month?

And now that I am back on land,.
I miss the surging ocean,
But I'll depend on that steam train
To be my loco-motion.

Very good Paul. I wouldn't want to be a sailor, but would definately like to be a cruiser!
Not to mention that steam train - my husband and I got married on one, then took a cruise!

I could tell from the meter of your previous postings that you liked chanties. Keep penning 'em, mate. They are a delight for the eyes and hearts of cruisers.

Thank you Paul.

I enjoy the words of the sea and sailing.

Some are sailors, some are cruisers. Some are tourists, some are travelers. And some are adventurers for whom almost no price or risk is too great.

In general, I really enjoyed the poem, Paul. "Sailed on the Sloop Paul B." And excellent "shanty" or "chanty" or whatever they're called.

A dear friend wrote a book about being a female pirate. I should send you my copy. Bet you could do something REALLY NEAT with it.

Pamda, actual relative (by marriage) of a benevolent pirate or, as we prefer to say, "Water-borne Entepreneur." There is a monument to him on St. Thomas.

Cool poem, Paul. Reminds me of the days when sailors were recruited by being kidnapped off the streets.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

There's a saloon in Sydney that had a trap door. When a guy was drunk enough, they'd open the trap door, he'd fall through, and be on the ship before he woke up.

Hey press gangs! Are you out there, still?

I dare you to kidnap me and set me aboard a cruise ship! Sling me into a higher deck balcony cabin! Subject me to the torture of the spa! Force me to endure the rigors of pampering! Make me eat that fillet mignon and drink those frozen drinks!
I dare ye! :-)

Hey that might make an interesting premise for a reality show.
