Default First time cruise advice

Hi All,I am Looking to take my wife on a cruise in October next year for our Silver wedding anniversary.I have found one on The Independence of the Seas to Spain and the canaries.I have also looked at the Med but can't really find anything on our anniversary which is on the 7th and I would like to be on the ship on our day.
I am really just looking for anyone's experiences on this Ship or destinations as I want it to be a special time for my wife as she deserves it after looking after me for the last 25 years. (my health has not been great, and has got worse over the years)
This is all new to me as the furthest I have been is Cornwall so have never booked a holiday abroad never mind a cruise.

I look forward to reading your reply's/suggestions/advice.

Regards,Andy

First, congratulations on 25 years!

My wife and I have been married for 43 years and have spent several anniversaries on cruises, so we know how great it is. For our 40th anniversary, I took her to Tahiti for 2 weeks that included one week on the Paul Gauguin, which was awesome, followed by a week on a private island! So start saving now and your 30th can be something special, also.

As for the Independence of the Seas, we've not been on her, but we've been on her sister, the Liberty of the Seas. Wonderful ships with lots of amenities.

Unfortunately, we've not been to any of the ports you're going to, with the exception of London. We've been all over Europe by train and by ship in the Baltics and the Greek Islands, but not to the area you're looking at, so I can't be much help there.

As for which cruise line and itinerary, I always tell people to make a list of places they definitely want to see and that helps narrow it down. Then you can take a look at the ships that are going there at the time you're interested in.

Best advice is to talk to an agent, preferably a cruise specialist, as their help can be invaluable and they don't charge anything for their service. Their rates will be the same as the cruise lines and often be able to offer other amenities. They can definitely help narrow down all the options and give you some choices you may not have thought about.

With that said, given the amount of time you've been married, I'm assuming you're probably in your mid- to upper-40's, or perhaps a little older. Royal Caribbean tends to draw a bit of a younger crowd because of all the amenities on their ships. We're in our mid-60's and while we like Royal Caribbean, we tend to prefer Celebrity or Holland America because their food is better. (And when we go on cruises, we all become foodies!) They also cater to a more older demographics, so they offer some very interesting itineraries.

Just some ideas to think about.

Pete

I have sailed on the Independence of the Seas and we had a great cruise. I also think that Spain and the Canaries will great for celebrating an anniversary.

Whatever you choose I hope that you have a wonderful experience.
