Default First time cruise-travel protection plan.

Hello cruisemates, I am new to this forum. i am going to a book a cruise for our family. I have narrowed down my option to Blount Small Ship Adventures as they have small ship cruises.I like small ship cruises better than than all those luxury cruises. Not only it is affordable. The ambience is better suited for families. Anyway i am thinking about booking their Lake michigan cruise voyage for next year.

This is their itinerary. They also suggested me to take their travel protection plan. Is it really helpful ?

Do you like camping??
Blount is an expensive camping trip IMO
their boats are made for rivers & not really suited to open waters their bottoms are more flat & do not ride well in rough water
but if you like that type of adventure sailing Blount will work for you

I would look at insurmytrip.com & get a plan that is suited to your needs
I never book insurance through the cruise line
be sure to read & understand the fine print before buying any policy

Have a look at Haimark if you like small ships
Haimark | DESTINATIONS
they offer Great Lakes cruises

I always suggest purchasing travel insurance, but never through the cruise lines. Independent policies can be much better and not cost as much. However, do you homework or talk to your agent - they usually have worked with good companies and can better advise you. Keep in mind that big name is not best policy. We use to sell travel insurance for 5 different companies and fired three of them (some of the biggest names in the industry) because their customer service sucked! And don't choose the least expensive because usually the level of their coverages are much less. There are some excellent policies out there for reasonable prices. But as I like to tell people, you hope it's a waste of your money, because if you need it, it's usually not for a good reason. Then again, if you need it, you're damn glad you've got it!
