Default Celebrity Summit fiasco

We just got back from our long awaited cruise to Alaska aboard the Summit. We missed the ship due to the airlines Air Alaska. We were supposed to get in Friday night and when we arrived in Anchorage there was noone from Celebrty there. We along with another couple and an older lady sat there for over two hours waiting for a Celebrity representative to help us. We finally made it to the ship with much difficulty on Sunday. I would never cruise with them again. People from Holland America and Princess were at the airport trying to help the best they could but all we got from Celebrity was grief.

First off, did you book the flight yourself, or was it cruise air?? Celebrity sailed from Seward- did you plan on arriving your day of sailing??? BAD idea anyway you look at it and never recommended. Sorry you had problems, but those are the state of travel today. Did you finally get to your ship?? Where??

Celebrity booked everything. We finally made it to the ship on Sunday. From now on I'll sail with Princess or Holland.

Since this was caused by an AIRLINE, it had nothing to do with the cruiseline, the cruiseline was a BOOKING agent only for the flights. It would have resulted in the same missed cruise no matter who you sailed with. In the furture, you may want to consider the standard advice to always arrive a day early of cruises. You hedge your bets and arrive relaxed.

There was an excellent article in Conde Nast a year ago or so, exactly on this point of cruiseair and the limits.

Karen16,
Did you NOT READ the OP - "People from Holland America and Princess were at the airport trying to help the best they could " I have cruised 2 times with Celebrity and they are wonderful until something goes wrong. Then it's not our fault!!

I am really sorry for you missing the ship. Since the ship leaves from Seward and it leaves on a Friday night, the flights they booked seemed to not have been a good choice.

Sometimes it is a better to book flights on your own and go an entire day earlier so you are sure you get there.

Didn't Celebrity give you ANY reason for there not being anyone there at the airport? If they arranged the flights and you had Celebrity Transfers from the airport to the ship, then there really is no excuse for them not have a rep there. You are correct in being upset and I would take it up with Celebrity management and get some kind of compensation. Usually I don't say that but if you got to the ship SUNDAY when it left on Friday night you deserve compensation.

Since this was our first cruise, we didn't know any different and let them book the air On paper it looked like we would have had plenty of time to reach Seward but because of Air Alaska being late we couldn't do it.
There was no answer about there not being a representative there, when one finally arrived he was very confused and just didn't know what to do. We were all exhausted. I have written to Celebrity to see if they will offer any compensation. We did have a good time in Alaska despit all of this.

Just a thought for you. If you booked through a travel agent or if you had trip insurance, then those folks should help you with Celebrity.
