I am doing the Alaska cruise out of vancouver

I am doing the 9 day cruise they only do once a year that goes out the first week of july.
I will be staying a week before the cruise in Vancouver as well as a week after the cruise in Vancouver so that I can sight see. I am wondering if anyone can help me with some questions I have.
1) Any info on recommended day tours?
2) Which 3-4 star hotels is recommended?
3) I am a military vet, how is Vancouver Canada on military discounts for vets?
4) is Vancouver gay friendly?
5) are there any nice day spas?
6) any "must see sites or attractions"?
