We are leaving on our Carnival cruise to the Mexican Riviera soon. My 13 year old daughter is bringing her friend with her. Does anyone have any experience in this. Is there anything thing she needs to bring other than her passport for documentation. The Carnival customer service person told us that this would be all she needs, but we have heard rumors about others having problems.
Thanks

When I took DD's friend I needed to produce a letter to get back into the US stating that I had her parent's permission to take her out of the country. It was signed and notarized. I also got a signed and notarized permission slip to get her medical treatment, if needed, and a copy of her insurance card.

In addition to the passport you absolutely need the notorized permission to travel and medical letters with insurance card and info. Letters should be signed by both parents unless only one has legal custody. If you are asked for any of this info by either Carnival or US Border Officials and cannot provide it your vacation could go downhill real fast.

I have taken my son's friend with us on a cruise before and had the notorized letter with permission to take him. The Carnival rep told us that we needed to have this again. I do have a question though, my son's friend Sam is going with us again in March but it's going to be a different situation this time. His mom died a year ago and his dad has full custody. Since he won't have both parents signatures does this effect anything?

Mexico is very strict on travelling with children. I suggest getting as much info from the parents as possible. Notorized letter, birth certificate with parents names, medical insurance cards, and passport. If you did not deal with a travel agent you can go to any agency and ask for the form and get the parents to get it signed.

Enjoy your cruise!
