We were there at the end of Jan. We took the Amatique Bay Resort Beach Day excursion through NCL. I would recommend this excursion for people with children (there is a water slide, rather nifty pirate ship, a decent pool, some animals (iguanas and turtles) OR for someone who just wants a quiet day to relax. The pool is good but the beach is not too nice (murky water). The resort is attractively landscaped and the staff are friendly. This excursion would NOT be suitable for someone who requires an excellent beach or a lot of activities. Be aware that if you have mobility problems, transportation to the resort is by water tax. There is one big launch that is easy to get on and off BUT most of the launches are smaller and boarding could be difficult. If for example you have bad knees INSIST on taking the big launch.

Zeno, what was your overall impression of St. Tomas? Little fishing village, Guatamalan port, industrial town or what?

Were there any other beaches you heard of that were nice?
