Default Beaches in St.Martin

Everyone seems to go to Orient Bay, is it the best beach near the ship? Any other suggestions. I don't want to do the one where the planes fly over, forgot it's name. Looking for options and about what a taxi should cost? Also are there beach chair rentals, food and bathrooms?

Not sure if it is the best beach but Grand Bay seems pretty decent and it is right there in Phillipsburg, a short taxi ride or a long walk.

All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by; John Masefield

I enjoyed Orient beach, although I wouldn't call it near the port...It is about a 20 minute ride and if I remember correctly, they charged a flat rate per cab ride, so you could share a cab and save some dollars...There are plenty of beach chairs, restaurants, bathrooms, etc. They also have cabs waiting there for the return trip.

Personally, I can't figure out why Orient Beach gets raves...must be the nudity.. Not a pretty beach in my opinion..try Dawn Beach

We have tried several of the cruise line excursions in St. Maarten, including Orient Beach, and a few others whose names escape me. However, the ones offered that include a free drink on arrival, and a buffet BBQ lunch included are our favourites. the beaches are nice, there are washroom facilities, shopping on the boardwalk, and of course, a bar.
