Hi all,
Getting mentally prepared for our Sept. cruise and thought of something I haven't seen out here. Before going, we make copies of all ID's, insurance cards, credit cards, etc. The copies go into the cabin "safe". On the off chance that a wallet or purse gets snatched in a port, it is easier to rectify things if you have copies on hand of important doc's. We each carried one credit card in ports and a spare also went into cabin safe.

Now I'm wondering if new passport requirements mean we should carry our passports around in the ports. We never used to, Does anyone know?
Thanks!
Marty

Hi Marty,

We always carry a copy of our passports on shore and leave the originals in the cabin safe. Unless the cruise line suggests that we carry the original, we won't. In all the ports we've been to (so far ) all we needed to get back on the ship was a DL and the ship card.

While losing a credit card can be a pain, losing a passport could really cause some problems! If I understand correctly, (and I may not ) the main reason you need your passport is to get back into the US.

I doubt if they will change the rules, but who knows!

What started me wondering was the new requirements for a passport to all ports, rather than just specific ones like it always has been. And, I am a contingency planner at heart. While I've never missed the boat while in a port, I've known people who have. Just not sure how far our Homeland Security is going to push things!
