Default Popular NJ Travel Agent has closed it business

As of yesterday a popular NJ based travel agent has closed it doors. If you have an upcoming cruise and final payment is due, check to see that its been made. I just got caught in this mess. Last month the agency charged the final payment to themselves. I called them on it and they said they remit payment to the cruise line (Celebrity) in one lump sum, per Celebrity's instructions. Today I find they've closed their doors and final payment hasn't been made. I had to pay Celebrity and then call my CC company to file a dispute on the charge they made to themselves.

Oh Darcy,
How unfair for you. Just glad you were on top of things and caught it before its too late. Now, why in the world wouldn't the agency just send in the payments to the cruiselines??

I'm sure your dispute will get corrected, keep us posted. This may be the start of more agencies closing its doors, how sad.

Thanks for the sympathy Donna.

I didn't post the name of the company as I wasn't sure if it was allowed or not. I never would have caught it but I got a letter from the travel insurance company that the policy had been cancelled as the agent didn't pay it. Its a company I've done business with in the past and I really thought it was just a glitch. In fact, its a company that's advertised on this board in the past, I believe. I booked through them using Cruise Compete.

Its very sad. They've been in business for a long time and had a good reputation. I think they were paying customer funds to themselves to try to stay afloat and it caught up with them. I feel really bad as I'm sure there are some inexperienced cruises out there that won't find out until right before their cruises when it will be too late. I not only feel bad for the people that got caught in this mess, but for the employees who have now lost their jobs. Its going to be really hard to find a job in the travel industry in this economy.

Oh well, hopefully I won't end up paying for this cruise twice. If so, it will be the most expensive interior cabin I've ever booked!

If the company has indeed closed its doors there is nothing wrong with posting the name of the company.

Take care,
Mike

I have used that company before and had wonderful service--last april I booked with them for a cruise on Princess this last october---they paid princess their deposit and come the end of June I paid the full payment-I kept watching the princess web site to see if it said paid in full and it never did ---i called the agency and they kept saying a check will be mailed out today--then acouple of weeks later nothing was posted so again they lied to me and said a check will be mailed out-nothing--then i called and wanted to speak to the head account and they gave me a number to another cruise agency that they were merging with and the lady was very nice and overnight the full payment and she told me when the merger was going through my reservation never went over and it showed only a deposit was paid and they never recorded the full payment was made -I had my american express bill to prove it but the next day--it showed on princess that it was paid--------i wrote cruise compete who recommended them on their site and got a nice letter back and stating that this was not typical of this agency -well now I know I wasn't the only one that had this problem

Thank you for letting me vent----

If anyone else is disputing this with their credit card company make sure you tell them you didn't authorize Cruise Value Center to make the charge for the final payment to themselves. You need to tell them you authorized them to make the charge for you directly to the cruise line. This could make a difference in whether or not you are successful in disputing the charge.

I have suspected that for quite a while now. One of the members on the CTC board had a heck of a time booking her honeymoon. She had made final payment but Carnival had not recieved it. At that point she was well within the 90 days. They gave her the runaround everytime she called. After weeks of wrangling with them she got it straight. She has since booked another cruise but went directly thriough Carnival this time.
