Default What is this beatles song about???

Okay my hubby got some Beatles albums and I'm enjoying the heck out of them. I always like to know the words of a song to sing along. The song I Am The Walrus came on. I know the words I just think they don't mean anything. Like a April Fool's Joke on the listeners. What do you think. Here is the song with Lyrics enjoy.

didn't that song have something to do with the big hoax that John Lennon was dead?

The song includes a few spoken lines of Shakespeare's King Lear, including "O untimely Death! Death!" This was the basis for the legend that McCartney was dead (not Lennon).

In my opinion these are the only two lines with meaning in the song.
"Don't you think the joker laughs at you"
"Men you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe."
John Lennon is the Joker laughing at us for overanalyzing his lyrics.

Speaking of William Shakespeare he does something similar in the play Mid Summer Night's dream. He uses Puck to apologize for writing a play that has no deep meaning and that is just for fun. This is why Midsummer's night dream is my favorite play of his. I hate deeper meaning. ;-)That is my 2 cents worth.:-D
Puck: If we shadows have offended, think but this; and all is mended that you have but slumbered here while these visions did appear and this weak and idle theme no more yielding but a dream. Gentles--do not reprehend if you pardon, we will mend. And, as I am an honest Puck if we have unearned luck. Now to scape the serpents tongue. We will make amends ere long else the Puck a liar call. So--goodnight unto you all. Give me your hands if we be friends. And Robin shall restore amends.

There is a great book titled "I Met The Walrus " which would answer your question .

From wikipedia:

"I Am the Walrus" is a 1967 song by The Beatles, written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon/McCartney.[1] Lennon claimed he wrote the first two lines on separate acid trips.[2] The song was in the Beatles' 1967 television film and album Magical Mystery Tour, and was the B-side to the #1 hit "Hello, Goodbye".
Lennon composed the avant-garde song by combining three songs he had been working on. When he learned that a teacher at his old primary school was having his students analyse Beatles' lyrics, he added a verse of nonsense words.[3]
The walrus is a reference to the walrus in Lewis Carroll's "The Walrus and the Carpenter" (from the book Through the Looking-Glass). Lennon expressed dismay upon belatedly realising that the walrus was a villain in the poem.[4]

Beatles The Walrus Was?

This site has some theories. Mine is that John Lennon just liked the way certain words sounded in his music, and as he says "it was just poetry." The Beatles were musicians foremost who specialized in singing - rather then being "message artists" like Bob Dylan. Somne of their songs were written for people they knew, but for the most part they were usually under the gun to produce songs for the next album and they would write them fairly quickly.

By the way - John says "The walrus was Paul" in the song Glass Onion.

Paul thanks for the website. I agree with you John liked the way the words sounded together and how they sounded with the music so he put them together. Then everyone started analysising what the words meant and who was the walrus so Paul and John decided to mess with them by saying Paul was the Walrus. Too funny.

I like to do masks in clay, when I start I have no way of knowing what it will be. My hands just create the piece. I know it's done when it looks right if that makes any sense. So it's a similar thing. There is no deeper meaning just the desire to create. This is kind of a blurry picture. But this is my best piece not a mask but a bust instead. I didn't even know she was female until I realized how high her cheek bones were.

It means nothing and if anything it appears to be the result of Lennon's LSD trips during that period.
