Default Bedbugs Becoming an Issue?

I keep hearing stories on the news about a bedbug epidemic in the US. Even 5-star hotels and cruise ships are not immune. I have now become a worried traveller, as apparently these things can even spread on public transit.

Is this a concern to anyone else?

Recently I saw an episode of Shark Tank on ABC. Some ladies have apparently created a small glue trap that attracts the bugs - not a solution, but it will alert you to the problem. They call their product BuggyBeds, and I will give it a try the next time I travel. Not just in the cruise cabin, but in the hotel rooms and in my luggage as well.

I would HATE to bring back a bedbug infestation to my home.

I know there have been rounds of bed bug issues in NYC over the last several years. I'm not sure how severe or widespread it has been.

Several years back, there was an issue of bedbugs. I think Kuki, had some friends onboard that had issues, and, it makes you want to scratch! Lift up the sheets on the corner of the bed and see it the telltale blood spots are there. They like to hide in the cording as well, and if you see any...I would expect a new mattress to be delivered, or a cabin change.

Overhead bins on planes too I have heard, can be an issue. If they come home with you, it can be $$$$ to have it taken care of.

Not something anyone wants to think of on a cruise, right? <shudder>

Because cruise ships are an isolated environment it is extremely rare for any to be found. Doesn't mean they can't come in on someones luggage though.

I've heard stories of them on cruise ships, but none that I know of have been absolutely verified as true. I believe the last two cases I was personally following about six years ago one accuser finally admitted it to be false when it was determined that the passenger was just using that as an excuse to not tip the cruise line. On the second that went on and on was a mother that claimed her son got them on a cruise. She had photos, etc. and demanded refund, etc. I believe a nurse here on CM told her it didn't look like it. Turns out after consulting doctor they were not bed bug bites.

Everyone should check The National Bedbug Registry prior to booking a hotel room in the USA .NYC has a large infestation ,primarily Manhattan .

You can check the CDC cruiseship site as well .

Whenever you travel, stay in hotels, cruise it's always a good idea to check for BB's. Learn where they hide and learn how to check for them. These little guys are notorious hitch hikers. While it is true that cruise ships don't have as much of a problem as hotels still be careful. The last thing you want to do is bring something back home that you didn't leave with and they multiply very fast and can go as long as a year without eating once they have filled up.
