I am thinking about cruising on Mercury and I will be travelling solo.
I know that Celebrity is not the best choice for solo travellers but I would still like to try it. I am not looking to meet plenty of singles to party all night long with but I do not want to be all by myself all week long neither and to be back in my cabin right after dinner because there is nothing else to do.
Please give me your opinion on what I should do (go for it or choose another cruise line and ship?) Any personnal experience will be welcome.
I was bored on my two recent celebrity cruise.
My last 6 cruises were
Carnival Paradise April 2, 2000
Carnival Paradise Oct 1, 2000
Celebrity Zenith Dec 8, 2000
Carnival Triumph April 7, 2001
HAL Maasdam Oct 7-14
Celebrity Summit Dec 14, 2001
I went on the Summit to check out the ship. Was bored after 3 days and it was a 10 days cruise. Not much going on after dinner.
Food was ok, nothing to brag about. Majority of the passenger are in their 50's and 60's, mostly family. i am a 40 years old single guy, been to 20+ cruises, 90% solo.
For me, Carnival still remains my favourite. Definitely there are more singles and the age group is a lot younger. Let say 50's and 60's years old passenger are the minority group. There are at least
4-5 bars and lounges that have music going on every night
rock and roll or country
another live band that play all kinds of music.
Food is great, i say is better than celebrity or rccl. Although service might not be as good.
Is easier to strike up a conversation with strangers.
My TA told me the spirit class is a beautiful ship and sometime this year I will try it out.
If there is any specific question, you can email me
Nathalie, I have never been on the Mercury so can't say how it is for solo cruisers; however, I suggest that you go to the Singles Section of Cruisemates and read my article on cruising solo. There are a lot of good tips on what you can do to help make your voyage enjoyable.
And as I always ask single cruisers to do, when you return PLEASE post here on the Singles Message Boards and tell us about your cruise. That way, others can decide if the Mercury is for them.
