Default single supplement

a single friend wants to join us on a cruise but we noticed if booked as a single the cost is 4,000 but if booked as two people 2,400. we were thinking about booking that way with the 2nd person not showing
has anyone done this

It sounds like the cruise fare is $2400 per person (2 persons sharing one cabin). This would cost $4800. Booking the cruise this way would cost you $800 more than booking as a single.

no it is 1200 per person we booked it
it is costing us 2400 for both of us 1200 each

I wonder why the single fare is $4000? The single fare is normally between 125% and 200% of the shared cabin fare. I travel single all the time and pay the single supplement. I would never pay more than 200% of the shared cabin fare.

I think you need to recheck your math. Were these figures quoted to you by your travel agent?
