Single--Double Tips?
I have two questions for anyone out there who has cruised alone. If you book a cabin by yourself and pay the dreaded "single supplement" do you also have to pay $10 a day times 2 so the cabin steward doesn't hate you?

I would also like to know if you book alone, if you can still choose your cabin or do they stick you anywhere they want? I am very much affected by motion and like to stay low and center as much as possible. That's one reason I would never accept an upgrade if offered on other cruises. Afraid I'd get up front or back. Thanks for any help.

Re: Single--Double Tips?

I cruise single all the time and I've just had to pay the $10.00 tip for one. The same applies to port charges. And I have always been able to select from available cabins. Hope this helps. Have a great day.

Re: Single--Double Tips?
Thanks so much for the information. I am really trying to get up the courage to go alone, as I love to cruise and have lost my travel partners. Grandkids are grown and have their lives to live. Daughter and I did the last 4, but one in October kind of turned her off to cruising right now. I didn't like that one either but it just made me look forward to planning a new one. Guess I'm addicted! It's great to hear about other's experiences.

No, you do not have to double tip, and you select your cabin when you book. If they offer to upgrade, and you don't like the location, you can stick with what you have.

And please go to the singles section of Cruisemates and read all my articles and tips on cruising by yourself. Not to worry. You are going to have a fabulolus time.

Don't let cruising alone keep you home -I've done a cruise alone - next one coming up in June to Alaska. However, this time I am doing it through You pay one port charge and tip charge. I always ask when putting the down payment down that if closer to the cruise I do get a cabinmate can they be added on and always am told that they can - they just need to add the port charges and tipping. I actually did this one time as my daughter decided to go a month before the cruise - no problem.

So - venture out and go cruising.
