on a cruise for a single, but isn't booked as a singles cruise? I couldn't schedule a "singles cruise" so am hoping I will find some singles on board the Zuiderdam on Apr.23/05. Will there be any attempts to accomodate singles events or such just to meet other single cruisers aboard? I am so hoping I won't be the only solo traveler. First cruise, so have no idea what to expect. Any comments appreciated. Thanks Dani
I cruise single all the time and I've found on Carnival, Princess and Norwegian that they do schedule functions for singles. Sometimes (my experience) nobody shows up or there are few singles. And I suppose some miss the notices of gatherings. Failing to meet someone at one of the single gatherings does not have to be a disaster. Sometimes singles show up at the dance venues.
You might also speak to the Maitre Ds and let them know you are single interested in being seated with other singles. Pat Hagen, who runs the Single section of this website can probably give you (and me) other ideas for meeting.
I don't know about Holland America yet, but I'm scheduled for an Alaska cruise with them in May. Of course, that's too late to give you a report. Perhaps you could let me know about your April cruise. Good Luck.

It's also helpful if you can find other people on your sailing. Check out some of the cruise boards for what's called a "Roll Call" and look for your ship and date. That's what I've done everytime and it works really well.
Dani- Try to go to the first night single get-together -- usually not well attended, but a good first shot. Maiter de's are delighted to seat singles with others at large tables -- you should call the line in advance and express preference for large table with other singles. Dance sites are good spots to see who's on board -- the key is to be open to contact -- not as bad as the bar scene, but there are always a few people you will not be interested in. Enjoy your cruise.
