Hi Nanci - Welcome back. Most of our chatting has been via email with the group we've formed. Wish I could do the Jan 22 cruise - that would fall during my birthday, but it's too soon after my Nov cruise. Some day I WILL treat myself to a birthday trip- perhaps that Hawaiian getaway I've always wanted.

BTW - did you play that $1 slot for me? Am I a big winner?

Jo

HI Jo: Hope I have not been missing anything via e-mail -- I really enjoy being in contact with all of you ! I did indeed play a $1.00 slot for you --- in fact twice in two different casinos. Unfortunately no luck !! I never seem to win anything, even at bingo !

Thanks Nanci - I owe you $2 - Will buy you a drink for remembering the next time I see you lol.

I think you were copied on all of the emails (at least mine). There hasn't been a lot of talk while you were gone. I think everyone is winding down from the summer. I'm sure things will pick up as winter fast approaches. We're all looking forward to that next trip, I'm sure.

Is anyone interested in the NCL Star Mexican Riviera on 11/14/06? A few of us are seriously thinking about booking this. All are welcome.

Default SINGLE STRAIGHT FEMALE OVER 50

Hi, I've just started travelling on my own recently. I felt a little strange at first but I kind of like it. Just came back from New England/Canada trip on the Triumph. Cruise are not bad to travel by yourself. You do meet people and can have fun. But I would love to meet singles and over 50.
Maybe e-mailing over the year and possibly meet on the ship; that would be a good idea. I also agree having your own cabin.

I could take a cruise maybe twice a year? I'm from NYC and I just love getting down to the pier and jumping on. Although I would also fly to pick up a cruise ship to.

Hi MaryLou,

I am a single 50 yr old stright woman who adores cruising. I would love to meet someone to share cruusing experiences with to various locations.

I have been on a number of cruises . I prefer 14 day sailings if possible.

Drop me a line if you have anything in mind. I am debating a transatlantic in November.

Take care,

Debbie

Great News Nanci - you can have a foo foo drink for me on my birthday.
What's your itinerary?

Welcome MaryAnn & Debbie. If you'd like to chat off the board, you can send me your email address(es) (see previous post) and I'll send you our email list. Otherwise, keep posting here as I'm sure many of us come back to visit from time to time. Several of us already have something booked for next year; some of us more than one trip. Hopefully you'll enjoy the people in this group as much as I have enjoyed chatting with them.

Happy Sailing
Joanne

HI Joanne: I don't care where I go, as long as I am on a cruise !! However my Westerdam cruise goes to Nassau, British Virgin Islands, St. Maartin & private island, all of which I have been to previously. In the meantime I am still looking for an "offer I can't refuse" prior to January. Am I crazy ????

HI Maryann & Debbie: Welcome to our group --- hope you will enjoy it here !!

Nanci - the offer still stands if you want to join me & mom on Carnival Imagination 11/3/05.

I think Judy is booked for a 10/29 sailing; Sharon is on 11/27, and Linda is 1/2/06.

Hope you find something.

HI Joanne: Thanks for the offer to join you & mom on the Imagination. As much as I want to get on a cruise soon I have many social activities in the next few months to keep me busy. I'm sure I can hold out till Jan. 22nd. If not I can always go out on the Sea Escape for the night (ugh!!). I'm sure you & mom will have a fabulous cruise and will be anxious to hear all about it !

Hey there everyone, my name is Jane and I'm from southern California. I'm 54 years old and recently went on a cruise to Alaska on the Amsterdam (HAL) in August of this year. Fantastic! Next year I'm going to the eastern Caribbean in April with my sister and brother in law (2 weeks) on Seabourn, and then I also booked Seabourn for a southern Caribbean cruise (just a week) in December of 2006, solo. Really nice to find this board! I love travelling alone and have done it several times, to England, Tahiti, another cruise to Greece a couple of years ago. So, nice to meet you all!

Jane

HI JANE: Welcome to our group --- nice to have you aboard! You certainly have some exciting cruises ahead. I have never sailed on Seabourn but hear it is wonderful. I have sailed on Crystal three times and it was awesome ! I have been on over 30 cruises but only one was as a solo (Crystal). My next is with a 40+ singles group in January to the Caribbean.

Hi Jane,
Welcome, glad you found us. As previously stated, a lot of our talking takes place off this board via email. If you, or anyone else, would like to be included on the email list, just drop me your email address and I'll send the list to you. You can reach me at JoCat07@aol.com. Please put "Over 50 Singles Cruises" in the subject line so I don't delete it as spam.

As you know, Linda, Maureen & I have booked our Mexican Riviera trip - but we have since decided to change our sail date. We originally booked for 11/14/06, but have changed it to 11/30/06 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. All are welcome to join us.

Happy sailing to all
Joanne

Just checking in to say hi and welcome new members. As Joanne wrote, she, Maureen and Linda are doing the mexican Riviera in the Fall. Linda and I met thru this thread and are sailing together April 22 on the Golden Princess to the southern Caribbean. It's a wonderful itinerary. If anyone wants to join us let us know. Both Linda and I are on the "Over 50's Singles" list.
Looking forward to meeting some of you on a future cruise.
Enjoy all you have planned.
Sharon

Hi Everyone,

Well Wilma sure has me wondering what's going to be left of the ports I'm scheduled to visit in 2 weeks. Most of all though, I hope everyone down there is safe. A cruise can always be re-routed or rescheduled.

Judy, you're scheduled to leave next week - are you going to the Caribbean or somewhere else?

Does anyone else have a trip scheduled down there any time soon?
Joanne

Hi Nanci - Thanks for dropping in. I was thinking of you and your mom this morning as I watched the news reports come in. Glad to hear you already have arrangements made. Please check in again so we all know that you're safe. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this beast of a storm dies a quick death.

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I heard from Nanci and she and her mother are fine. They still have some issues but life is slowly returning to "normal" for them since Wilma.

I think a few people from this post have cruises coming up: Carolyn, Holly, and Sharon. I hope you all have a wonderful trip on your respective cruises. Holly & Sharon, are you both on the same ship? I see you're traveling the same day.

Hope this finds everyone well. Please drop a line from time to time.
Joanne

Default Entering this thread a bit late

Hi All,

I just found this board and this thread today and haven't had a chance to read all the responses but am thrilled to find it. Although I'm not 50 (48, close enough?) I would love to meet other single, straight women who love cruising AND having their own cabins. I took my first cruise in July (12-days in Alaska on NCL) and loved it. I was the only single woman on the cruise with my own cabin and couldn't help but wonder how people were able to share the bathroom! It was so small!

I'm planning my second cruise for the end of September 2006 through the Panama Canal on HAL (leaving from San Diego). Anyone else going?

I promise I will read the whole thread this weekend! My e-mail address is: gxchan@hotmail.com if anyone wants to contact me.

Ginnie

HI Joanne: Almost three weeks after Wilma and we are doing fine. There are still many without power, traffic lights still out, and lots of downed trees and debris. Unfortunately, this area will never look the same. Mom & I are going on a well deserved cruise on the Crystal Serenity on 11/27 ......... definitely need the R&R. However I never rest on a cruise........too much to do and I want to do it all !! When is your next cruise? If I don't post before Turkey Day I send my good wishes to all of you for a happy, safe and healthy holiday.

Hi Ladies,

I am 55 also and I live in Canada. I have been on 3 cruises and I am soloing it this time in January. I am looking forward to it, but at the same time it will be quite different and I hope I don't feel lonely. I have been solo on an all inclusive for 1 week in Mexico a couple of years ago, but this time I will be on a 11 night cruise. It is SO nice to have this site and discuss with other singles. Pleased to meet you all.

Default 11-night cruise

Hi Rene,

The cruise I took to Alaska this summer was an 11-night cruise and I was on my own, as well. I, too, was a bit concerned about being lonely--it was my first cruise. I wasn't lonely at all! I met so many people (some people thought I worked on the ship because I knew so many people!) and formed a delightful circle of friends to spend time with. I was on NCL, which has Free Style dining. Free Style means you can go to dinner at any of the restaurants any night at any time, no fixed seating (unless you specifically ask). While I am comfortable dining on my own and did a few times on the cruise, I also had meals (including dinners) several times with people I met on the cruise. It was great fun! You don't have to worry about being lonely as long as you smile often and have a go with the flow attitude. Enjoy your cruise!

Hi Ginnie,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, this is my third cruise and just love it. The first thing I noticed when I had a partner to go with was how nice it was for each of us to do our own thing and that it could be okay going alone. I consider myself an outgoing person and like to meet people, so I think I will have a great time. I think the time when I will feel alone is the traveling from Edmonton (where I live) to Toronto, then from Toronto to San Juan and spending the night there. When I board the ship, I will just know I will be better. Thanks for your encouraging words - looking forward to the adventure.

Rene,

I know exactly what you mean. I was fortunate enough to be able to take this past summer off from work and travel--the Alaska cruise was just one of the trips I took. The hardest part was getting stuck next to a guy on a 5-hour flight back from Hawaii who was just odd. I don't know if you are comfortable having dinner on your own but if you are, believe it or not, it is a great way to meet people. I have had great conversations with the wait staff and other diners (usually other travelers) when having dinner on my own--not all the time, of course, but often enough. The wait staff are great sources for things to do to fill your time, as are other travelers. When at a really nice restaurant in DC I was asked if I would be willing to share a table with another "single." The other single was much further up the list than I was so the wait would be much shorter; I agreed. The other single was a guy traveling on business; it was one of the most memorable dinners I've ever had. And, no, there was no hanky panky, just a really pleasant conversation with a very nice guy.

Needless to say, as a woman traveling on her own, you must be security conscious and if you feel anything amiss, walk away. But I have found these brief exchanges with other travelers, hotel and wait staff, etc. to have brightened my day and made the actual traveling less of a chore and I've learned some amazing stuff.

I'd love to hear how your trip/cruise goes. My next cruise isn't until the end of September, so I'll just have to live vicarious through you until then!

Ginnie
