Default Singles Poll..who goes for love, sex, or to stop lonliness?

Why do folks pay extra $$ to be in a group of singles? Is it to find love? Someone to do the wild thing with? Just plain lonliness? Maybe to be a part of something bigger? Is it shyness? An excuse to party hardy and have unlimited cocktails?

Actually it's none of the above. I've done quite a few singles cruises with different travel agents and the reason I like them is that there is always someone around to do something with. I am not stuck sitting at a dinner table with mom/pop and the 4 kids and we have our own parties (and I don't even drink)!. I have made a lot of great friends of the last 4 years both male and female from all over the country. I keep in touch with these people and have become great friends to me. I suppose many people have their agenda going on a singles cruise. I like them just to have fun with people I have something in common with.

I've cruised solo, would consider a single cruise just to have a ready made group of people to do things with. Also it would eliminate those sometimes awkward moments when you're not part of a couple.

My main reasons for cruising are to have fun, relax, and explore new places.

I agree with boo bobo and Shelby. It's more about being around like minded people and having people to share activities with. That is me personally though. I have seen some who only go on a singles cruise to get laid too.

OK Brad... you point blank said what I didn't want to come out and say .... but yes some people do have one 'agenda' for lack of a better term

At the risk of parroting the previous posters yes, I do go on single cruises only to associate with other single cruisers. The thought of sitting at a dinner table with couples and families for me is unthinkable unless I plan to do just the cruise itself.

I do consider a large percentage of single cruisers DO have an agenda on meeting someone to have a cruise ship romance and possibly have sex.

Anyone who does a single cruise should plan on a well attended large cruise to have a diverse choice of people of the opposite sex.

I am going because my travel mate dropped the ball. But who cares. I am going on Enchantment 9/25 for fun. With the agenda to have fun. I am a 911 communicator and need a break.

Single people go on singles cruises for a variety of reasons: To make new friends, for the agency's free cabinmate matching to avoid the expensive singles supplement, hoping maybe to meet that someone special, to be assured of being around other singles so they won't be surrounded by grandparents, parents, kids, and newly-weds. They also know that if they want to be by themselves they can. No one forces anyone to participate in the games, etc. I love singles cruises!

I go to have fun in the sun, get a tan, frolic in the pool, and hopefully meet a hot babe to invite to my cabin to show my seashell collection.

I've said it before and I will say it again. I go first for the travel experiance, second to make new single friends who can travel with me in the future, and whom are not tied down with hubby and kids!

The singles activities are a blast, Im not a drinker eather. Each cruise my social circle grows, Ive found cruising is the most social of all vacations. Because everyone is in the same boat literally.

On the flip side some people do go hoping to find Mr or Miss Right (maybe they watched too many Love Boat reruns) and end up with Mr or Miss Right Now! Others have gotten married, and yes cruise babys have been concieved.

If I just want to meet a guy I can do that without having to spend the money to take a cruise to do so.

Yes, Showcat. But for the money I spend on a cruise, I would feel gyped if I don't get lucky. I think it should be included in the fare. My upcoming cruise though, I have found a date to go with me so I won't have to worry about it this time. 8)

I haven't taken my trip yet. (Or scheduled it for that matter..but soon...very very soon...)

I'm deciding on a hosted singles cruise because I think that some things are just better when shared with others.

I'm also naturally a very shy, reserved person in real life. My hope is that the group activities will force me out of my comfort zone (shell), and help me meet others, make friends, and have fun sharing the experience with others. I think if I tried it alone, I would end up never getting the gumption up to introduce myself to anyone except my dinner partners. You know..the quiet guy at the end of the bar watching everyone else have fun...that's me.

That is a frightening thought but that can be solved by BOTH men and women bringing "protection", also talking to men and women who have alot to lose if the stork comes a calling.

Something to think about, what woman in her right mind would want to have a baby with someone they met on a short time on a cruise. It says alot about the mental state of the woman during the time of the cruise.

I have a lot of different shells for different occassions. Big ones, the ones you can hear the ocean, different colors and textures, some are smooth and some are rough, ect... It makes for a good diversion during a hot day around the pool deck. Take a break from the sun, get some AC, make a drink, you know...

Sometimes I end of fondling my seashell collection by myself but it always nicer to share the joys of shell collecting with someone.

So Dave is the shell collection real or is it just something you use to lure unsuspecting women into your cabin

It is real, really I sware! There have been times though that we started off looking at and touching the shells and then one thing leads to another and before you know it we are doing the Austin Powers.... You know the scene. Where Vanessa asks if he smokes after sex and he says, "I don't know... I've never looked" Then he finds out she was a fembot all along and she blows up then he dances through the hotel lobby naked after coming down the glass elevator. It happens sort of like that.

Dave you are a cruising professional. I see you have two more booked, lucky you! Are these short one's or 7 days? Will you ever stray from RCL?
Did you ever do an escorted singles cruise? Your shell collection will be getting a workout. We here at cruise mates need photos of the shell collection as proof so post away!

Showcat,

No, I have never been on a "singles cruise". However, everytime I have gone single there were always lots of other singles onboard. Typically, groups of girls traveling together which far outnumbered the amount of single guys onboard. Good odds

I will take a few pictures of my seashell collection just for you and post them here. It may be after the weekend though because I am going to St Augstine for the weekend. Maybe I can find some new shells while I am there.

Yes, two booked. The Enchantment is just a 4 nighter with a business association I am in. The one in May on the Mariner is with the kids and for 7 nights. It will be my first Voyager class ship so I am looking forward to that one!

Showcat, a good idea. Thanks for asking him. Now we will find out if the seashells must be "censored."

This has been a hilarious exchange of witticisms. You and Dave The Wave are such fun.

Thanks Pat, since it's a lot of the same singles on this forum I think we keep each other amused!

I will tell my other single friends to try to post here from time to time and let the singles on the Pride know as well, would be nice to get some more newbies here on cruisemates!

For my friends and I, there hasn't been much sex on our trips but the occasional "light hook-up". We just want to meet new people to hang out with, dance, etc.

If it's all guys, then I definitely want to meet women - but not for sex. It's just fun to meet new people.

How do you define "light hook-up"?
