Julie we don't want to discourage you to choose a roommate to save on costs, by all means go for it. Even I have thought about saving a couple hundred bucks for a week cruise by choosing an unknown person to share my cabin but the risk is too great . . . for me anyway.

I had roommates in the past that I've gotten along with though they were not on cruises they were on resorts which was way too expensive so I tolerated their little quirks. When you take in a roommate there should be instant respect and compromise from 2 or even 3 strangers depending on how much you want to save on a room. I personally don't want to share my safe with a stranger and I assume he doesn't either. I also don't want to tell someone I am an earlybird/nightowl or what types of habits I have or to hear his or yet find out on my own. Yes, I am willing to pay close to or double the amount for peace of mind.

If I do take on a cabinmate on a cruise it will be a close friend or relative that can "watch my back" with the cost of saving me money.

I understand how you feel, but this is a singles column. On this site there is a singles roomate category. Why are you all being so negative? Being a woman and looking for a woman roomate, I don't feel my saftey is something to worry about. A cruise is to have fun, I can do that if I get along with a roomate or not!

Julie, I do not think the folks here are being negative, that are just stating the facts and what to expect. I actually had a roommate matched up for me on my very first cruise 13 years ago and it worked out. I was very lucky but have talked to others that have not been so fortunate. Bob

I didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I came to realize to perfect my single group cruise experience is to do it . . . in my own cabin. The cabin I seen as an extension of one's home for a few days. I can't see myself sharing my home even though that home is "rented" on a cruise ship.

This is just me.

Enjoy your cruise and your roommate.

if you looking at booking on this cruise with VTC you should do it soon. The prices went up today. Increase of 154.21 on a shared balcony and up 265.21 on a solo balcony. inside and oceanview went up by 43.21 on all other options.

Joe:
I noticed the increase today also. I wonder how much it will go up prior to selling out?
BTW, I think I got a better rate on the Queen Mary than you did...$133 for the night, and that included tax.
I will look for you onboard

You can get a much lower rate on the Queen Mary, let them know you are cruising with Carnival and they will knock it down to $119. Just show your cruise ticket.
