Default Days Hikes from Santiago

We end our cruise in Valparaiso and will spend three days in Chile. Has anyone got any experience with a day hike in the mountains out of Santiago. From what I can see they all seem to use the Cascada de las Animas centre near Santiago.

Is this worth doing? Other options would be welcomed.

If you have three days to spare, it might be worth your while to fly to Peru and visit Machu Pichu. I've heard the sight is breathtaking and you can do great hiking there( assuming you can take the 11,000 ft altitude).

We are planning a Cape Horn cruise and will try and arrange this for us.

Good Luck!

Steve

This was our original plan but we decide to spend time in Brazil at the start and go to Iguacu. Peru is now a future trip! Thanks for the suggestion.
